Cheese Kit Diptych is an installation by artist Walter Willems consisting of two drum kits. In one, full rounds of real (mainly Dutch) cheese sit atop drum stands; in the other, plastic cheese replicas usually found in store display windows are employed. In this absurd setting Willems reinforces the international stereotype of the Dutch by using a classic Dutch export product as its main ingredient.

Cheese Kit Diptych was created specifically to be played by world-renowned Dutch improvisational jazz drummer Han Bennink. Bennink, ambassador of the Dutch free jazz scene, is known for his ability to drum on any surface, teeming with humor, virtuosity, and creativity through his animated style. Willems considered his installation incomplete until Bennink played both of the drum kits.

The drum performance by Han Bennink was recorded on June 17, 2005 at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art where the Cheese Kit Diptych installation was a featured artwork in the Demons Stole My Soul: rock ‘n roll drums in contemporary art exhibition. As part of the performance Bennink also played a conventional drum kit and a pair of wooden shoes. [YouTube]

Directed and produced by Walter Willems.

A Music Video by Paul White for the song  « Big In Japan » from Tom Waits’ Mule Variations CD. I just wanted to share with you this vid, as there are some big times in it. And when I say big, I mean Godzilla Big and King Kong big ! So it is really really big. It starts with New Orleans girls and after a few seconds we are in Japan. And for the first time, I can speak of Japan without saying the word strange. Though most of us might consider than mixing Godzilla, King Kong and Tom Waits in the same video is strange . Too bad, I failed once more.

And here are the Lyrics :

I got the style but not the grace
I got the clothes but not the face
I got the bread but not the butter
I got the winda but not the shutter

But Im big in japan Im big in japan but heh Im big in japan

I got the house but not the deed
I got the horn but not the reed
I got the cards but not the luck
I got the wheel but not the truck

But heh Im big in japan Im big in japan Im big in japan

I got the moon I got the cheese I got the whole damn nation
On its knees I got the rooster I got the crow
I got the ebb I got the flow

I got the powder but not the gun
I got the dog but not the bun
I got the clouds but not the sky
I got the stripes but not the tie

But heh Im big in japan Im big in japan Im big in japan

Heh ho they love the way I do it
Heh ho theres really nothing to it

I got the moon I got the cheese
I got the whole damn nation on their knees
I got the rooster I got the crow
I got the ebb I got the flow

I got the sizzle but not the steak
I got the boat but not the lake
I got the sheets but not the bed
I got the jam but not the bread

But heh Im big in japan Im big in japan Im big in japan
Im big in japan, Im big in japan

I love typos, fonts and police. I discovered this week that a Typophile Film Festival existed. On the video above you can see the Opening Titles. It was made by Brent Barson and his students. It is :

A visual typographic feast about the five senses, and how they contribute to and enhance our creativity. Everything in the film is real—no CG effects!

The effect is great ! So, I wandered if Brent had made some more videos. And  I found a video called F is for Fail. And I really enjoyed it. This is How Brent Barson defines it :

F is for Fail is a short film about the creative process, and the failure we always encounter, but usually overcome. Told using the alphabet, each letter informs us of the state of the protagonist’s creativity/state of mind. Each letter has two words associated with it (except A and Z); sometimes the positive word overpowers the negative word, and vice-versa.
Typographic footage was converted and exported one frame at a time. No filters or plug-ins!

Yes, If you watched both video till the end, it means you are a typophile… like me… sorry. [Brent Barson]

Ecological apple (experimental short) from Andreas Soderberg. This video just show an apple breathing slowly. I didn’t know in which category to put it. Is this art ? It is a video but it is strange too… The apple has been filmed in stop motion during its rotting process, and this is what we can see on its film. The footage has been remixed to give the illusion it is breathing out its life and juice, while it can breath in its life. Neat.

The title of the movie says it all, it is the story of the Masked Avenger Versus Ultra-Villain in the Lair of the Naked Bikini. Here is what it says on IMDB :

Masked Avenger is a hero to the modern world. He destroys his enemies with kung fu fighting, handsaws and guns, but with one small hang-up. At the sight of a woman, The Masked Avenger immediately begins to gratify himself, no matter what situation he is in. The evil Helmut Gunta plans to impregnante a virgin in order to have an heir, and the woman he has in mind is a nun, Sister Mary who happens to be the Masked Avenger’s sister. Gunta has a plan to stop The Masked Avenger from getting in the way… organise a gang of strippers to keep him pre-occupied until Sister Mary is pregnant.

I don’t know what kind of movie it really is, I do NOT advise you to watch it. It is directed by Mark Savage and written by, you guessed well, a japanese writer named Haruki Koto.
