Do You Know Improv’Everywhere ? No ? Yes, you do. If you know what is a Flashmob, you’ve certainly seen the Frozen Grand Central video ? On the vid above is their last impro. They used some invisible dog leach, which is a prank toy used in the 70′s, and hundreds of people walked their invisible dog down the streets of a Brooklyn. Of course people started wandering WTF was going on. Some played the game nicely and even dropped some water. But what is interesting is that when there is a flashmob now, people wants to know what those flashmobbers want to promote. Marketing has used a good idea to sell products. A real flashmob should sell nothing excepts absurdity, stupideness and good time. Here are some of the funniest or best impro by Improv’Everywhere I’ve seen.

Here they took 40 listening station in a Virgin MegaStore. Stupid and efficient :

“Best gig ever,” principle is “Pick a struggling rock band and turn their small gig into the best show of their lives.” turning a concert where only 3 people showed up to 43 spectators.

A subway car with identical twins, creating a human mirror.

And of course : over 200 people freeze in place on cue in Grand Central Station in New York.

And the last, but a funny one : infamous U2 rooftop spoof.

What else can I say ? It is a website with pictures of animals with lighsabers. Nothing Else. Above is a Jedi squirrel fighting, below a Sith Cat fighting a Jedi Dog and so on. There is even an Octopus. That website is collaborative and they expect you to contribute by sending your own pictures of animals with lightsaber. They even give you 3 diffenrent light for you sabers and 2 different handles. Then, you just need a nice picture editor to add a lightsaber to whatever animal you’ve photographed.

For 24 days, on two different continents and time zones, marilia destot (in the USA) & angelle (in France) will capture at the same time an image they’ll post on this blog, sharing and crossing their vision. Adding one hour every day to their photographying schedule, each of them will experiment the 24 hours of a day.
No theme but the time-obligation for this simultaneous and real-time based photographic correspondence, improvised and developed from 2009 july 1rst to july 24th.

Radiohead video for their single « House of Cards » was directed by James Frost. No cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data. Therefore, if you have access to the data, you can manipulate Thom Yorke as you please. I know some ladies would like that but they will be disapointed as you can only change the point of view while he sings. Anyway, if you still want to play with him just go to that page and click on the play button. It takes a while to load but it is worth it to wait.

Go to: http://code.google.com/radiohead to find additional pieces of data to create your own visualizations.

And if you still wander how they made a video without using lights or camera, here is the video of the making of. It explains everything and should answer all the remaining questions you might have.

Radiohead : House of Cards Lyrics

Songwriters: Greenwood, Colin Charles; Greenwood, Jonathan Richa; O’Brien, Edward John; Selway, Philip James; Yorke, Thomas Edward;

I don’t want to be your friend
I just want to be your lover
No matter how it ends
No matter how it starts

Forget about your house of cards
And I’ll do mine
Forget about your house of cards
And I’ll do mine

Fall off the table,
Get swept under
Denial, denial

The infrastructure will collapse
Voltage spikes
Throw your keys in the bowl
Kiss your husband goodnight

Forget about your house of cards
And I’ll do mine
Forget about your house of cards
And I’ll do mine

Fall off the table,
And get swept under

Denial, denial
Denial, denial
Your ears should be burning
Denial, denial
Your ears should be burning
Denial, denial

Women in Art is a video made by Philip Scott Johnson. It collects 90 different portraits of Women painted by artists over a period of 500 years ! Philip Scott Johnson seems to like the morphing effects and It is really amazing to see how women were represented through Art. The representation of women is an element which has certainly been studied but which deserved a visualization. Now this is done.I really like the morphing effect, it is hypnotizing and I must admit it works very well here.

Music: Bach’s Sarabande from Suite for Solo Cello No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007 performed by Yo-Yo Ma.

Philip Scott Johnson has done some more videos using morphing. Its subjects goes from 60 years of Female Stars on the CBS Television Network, to Landscapes, via Self-portraits in Art. The results are inequals.

To stay on the subject of this post, here is another video using morphing, this video is called :

[Bon Yurt via Neatorama]

Oh, The Temptation by Steve V shows a simple experiment. You take one kid, one Marshmallow, you leave them both in a room for a while. But you tell the kid : « You can eat the Marshmallow now, but if you wait for my return and if you didn’t eat it, I’ll give you one more. So you will have 2 Marshmallows instead of only one ». That kind of experiment is a reflexion on temptation, and on the mechanisms of hope on future rewards and blablabla.

No, that kind of experiment tells us nothing on capitalism, it is only cute. One kid even kissed its Marshmallow ! Another one tries to eat little bits of it, hoping it will still look fresh as new. They all go through great ordeal but yes it is fun. While watching it, i’m sure you will have a faint smile on your face. Don’t lie…
