I don’t know what it takes not to be disturbed by the Ron Mueck’s amazing realistic sculptures.

Why is this so disturbing ? May be because this Australian hyperrealist sculptor knows how to reveal our weaknesses, simply by magnifying or shrinking bodies and showing what we shouldn’t see. It awakens in me the same feelings as the one we can find while reading Gulliver’s Travels. Indeed, gigantic bodies shows the grotesque and grossness of humanity while lilliputians reveal how ridiculous one can be. Here it seems Muecks goes a step further with his Spooning Couple in bed where, though the 2 bodies are closed from one another like 2 spoons,  one is turning its back on the other, and both seems plunged in deep thoughts. Watch and comment as you please.

Mueck’s early career was as a model maker and puppeteer for children’s television and films, notably the film Labyrinth for which he also contributed the voice of Ludo, and the Jim Henson series The Storyteller.
